CUSP THEORY
This is a concept that I envisioned while contemplating other such art concepts as the sculpture series, "Temples of Now", "E" or "Finding Zero". A good illustration of how the concept is encapsulated and what I am focusing on can be seen in this 3D animation: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zw11DKfuBAY or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6VnZQO5FHQ ).Here, I'm in love with the idea of an infinitely compressed space. Where the amalgamation of differences, change and creativity happens. It is not a thing or noun, but a continuous happening. Each one of us are like this little ribbon of light that is forever, changing, vibrating with the complex flow of external/internal happenings. In short, the processing of life.
To keep the importance of the visual aesthetic the images are just that.

For over twenty years I have had a great interest in this happening. At first it was an aesthetic interest and as things progressed it became more of a concept/theory. In 2005 I was asked to be one of the key-note speakers in The International Arts and Math Conference, the “2005 CU Special Year in Art and Mathematics. Where my work is quoted as “It models the idea that a confluence in not a destination but more the alchemy of time that produces many types of dialogue. Concepts surrounding relationships created by plains, lines, colors edges and values that become a visual doorway to greater questions about where and how all mediums confluence. These types of dialogues are not limited to only one form or medium of expression but they must exist as a product of a cusp or an intersection of divergent thoughts, a product from the center of life”.
Project Application
With this courtyard and its location, I see my desire to symbolically place this "Cusp Sculpture" within a physical point of confluence being fulfilled. This court yard is a place where people from all walks of life will converge on a daily basis. Coming and going, meeting with known purpose and by chance, creating an energy or logarithm of happening, a constant flow of compression, amalgamation and decompression. Not only is this corner part of an important diagonal of integration (Park Avenue) to the city grid of Denver but it is a gateway with its Light Rail system to the famous confluence of "Five Points" running along Welton St. In essence a lot is coming together here and this is what the Cusp Sculptures are about. Where each form and curve of the two different stone pieces meet, they compress and amalgamate to create the thread-like line in its center making a "cusp". So, this same thing happens as the people are passing through this courtyard. They meet, converse, and are somehow effected and continue on with their day. This is not to say they are necessarily aware that they have been effected at all, hence the center of life happens. The stone I have chosen to use is symbolic to this point. It is a Silverdale lime stone with a high concentration of fossilized sea shells. As where we can be unaware, these creatures, sea shells are unknowing to the fact they have been compressed over millions of years and are now the physical model, embodiment of the whole in its happening.
